Kawarau Gorge Trail
UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Central Otago
Kawarau Gorge Cycle Trail project represents a bold and ambitious undertaking, designed to enhance outdoor recreational opportunities in one of the most stunning natural landscapes. This contract encompasses the construction of multiple suspension bridges, extending from 75metres - 120 metres, the engineering of eight robust cliff-mounted bridge structures capable of supporting loads of up to 6 tonnes, the delivery of 9-kilometer portion of trail through terrain characterized by extremely challenging geological conditions, demanding access strategies and intricate logistics planning.
The complexity of this endeavor is underscored by the necessity of employing advanced engineering solutions, extensive helicopter operations totaling hundreds of hours, and the strategic use of over 2000 kilograms of explosives to carve the path through this rugged terrain. The completed trail promises to stand as a testament to innovative engineering.
