Lake Dunstan Trail

2019–2021

Central Otago: Queenstown Central Otago Cycle Trail Trust

Lake Dunstan Trail construction project, which involved the development of several portions of a captivating multi-use trail that gracefully follows the scenic shoreline of Lake Dunstan. This trail is designed to provide exceptional opportunities for walking, cycling, and immersing oneself in the breathtaking natural landscape of the area.

EML faced the challenge of navigating very steep geological features, designing and constructing sections of trail that seamlessly blends with surrounding terrain. Key features of the project include the construction of 2400metres of trail hewn from the hillside using explosives, and the installation of multiple (x7) 20m-160m cliff-mounted bridges that are unlike any seen in New Zealand. The Dunstan Trail has served as a vital asset for both locals and visitors, offering a unique and unparalleled way to experience the stunning landscapes of the region.
